Birds twittered outside the shuttered bedroom window. Sighing, I reached over and clicked on the bedside light. Sleep had eluded me, not only in the last five hours, but for days. It had nothing to do with my room or the bed I was currently lying on. The damn place was the most luxurious bedroom I’d ever been in. The bed was huge and soft and covered in dark red silk bedding. There was a thick carpet that my toes sank into, and pretty paintings of the ocean and the castle hung on the walls. It was spotlessly clean and warm…and I hated it. No matter the expensive furnishing, or the wardrobe full of new clothes, it was empty—like my chest had felt since Davlov had basically thrown me out of his room.

He hadn’t listened to my plea and had withdrawn from me completely. Oh, he was still polite, always making sure I was well fed and had everything I needed, but he was as distant emotionally as he could get. Tears pricked my eyes. It hurt more than any beating or injury I’d ever endured. I’d never felt pleasure, or a connection like I had a week ago in that gym. Desire spread right through me, those memories making me hard, just like they had done every day and night since.

I groaned, pulling a pillow over my face. It clearly hadn’t been as good for an ancient and experienced vampire like Dav, despite his groans and whispers to the contrary. He’d withdrawn from the dirty half-blood quicker than any lover I’d ever had. Oh, he’d cleaned me up after our encounter, he’d even walked me to this room, but he’d already left me and we both knew it.

I tried to ignore the pain of his rejection and lies, but it stung to know he was just like every other vampire I’d ever known. I guessed even for Originals, a half-blood wasn’t worth anything. I threw the covers off and sat on the side of the bed. At least a human’s blood was pure enough to drink. According to Davlov, other supernatural blood was forbidden to Originals unless you wished to mark them as yours. I scoffed. Victor had never been bothered by that kind of rule. Mades drank supernatural blood to make themselves stronger; to give them the same strength and speed as an Original, even if it was only a temporary fix.

Dav hadn’t even tried to take my blood while he fucked me. He really had no interest in me belonging to him, even though he’d told me I was his. Then again, he’d said he wouldn’t let me leave his side, and look at where I ended up; sleeping alone in a bedroom far from his. I guess all his words were lies.

Curling my top lip, I pushed away the ache in my chest and glanced at the clock. Seven PM. Time for my lesson. Why Dav still insisted on me training, I had no idea.
